Today, I had the honour of swearing in 24 new Permanent Secretaries who will serve as the engine room for effective service delivery in the New Abia of our dreams. These men and women were selected through a rigorous and transparent process that I personally supervised to ensure that only the best and the brightest were chosen. I congratulated them for their well-deserved appointments and urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and accountability in their new roles.
The new Permanent Secretaries reflect the diversity and inclusiveness that we cherish in the New Abia. We have a record number of female permanent secretaries, as well as one who is from Edo State. We are not interested in where you come from or what religion you practice, but in what you can contribute to the development and progress of our state. We are building a civil service that is reform-oriented, merit-based and insulated from partisan politics.
I charged the new Permanent Secretaries to be innovative, proactive and responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people of Abia. They are the link between the policies and programmes of the government and the implementation and execution of the same. They must therefore work in harmony with the commissioners, the heads of agencies and the directors affiliated to their respective offices. They must also be ready to learn, relearn and unlearn, as we are constantly seeking new ways to improve our service delivery and achieve superior outcomes. I assured them of my support and guidance as they embarked on this noble task of serving our dear state.
