Governor Otti Restores Hope As Amangwu Arochukwu Gets First Ever Govt, Community Health center In 100 Years
Amangwu-Arochukwu is set to officially commission the first-ever Government Health Center in more than 100 years.
The Planning Committee for the Official Commissioning of the Amangwu Community Health Centre and Free Medical Outreach, Chaired by Amb. Sunday Chibuzo Okereke is delighted to announce that all is now set for the official inauguration of the Amangwu Community Health Center project completed by the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.
The Amangwu Community Health Center is a historic and nostalgic project that is very dear to the grateful hearts of the good people of Amangwu, Arochukwu, LGA. Excitedly, the Health Center recorded its first-ever child delivery on August 24 2023 with thunderous joy, jubilations and deep appreciation to the Governor and Government of Abia State for the intervention.
In recognition of the strategic importance of the project to the health and well-being of Ndi Amangwu and the entire people of Arochukwu Kingdom, the leadership of the Amangwu Development Union (ADU) constituted the Planning Committee to design and implement the Official inauguration activities of the Health Center, Sustainability Governance Framework and Free Medical Outreach.
The program which is being organised under the theme- "Health is Wealth" is scheduled to be held on September 22, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.; while the Free Medical Outreach will start at 9:00 a.m. the same day.
The packed event is expected to feature Her Excellency, Mrs Priscilla Otti, Wife of the Governor, Abia State as the Special Guest of Honour; the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr Ngozi Okoronkwo, Guest of Honour, UgwuAro, Mazi Emma Kanu Ivi, Chairman of the Occasion, Mazi Frederick Eze, Chief Launcher, Mazi Mike Irogbenachi, Father of Day and Mazi Kanu Irogbu, President-General, ADU as the Chief Host amongst other highly esteemed distinguished dignitaries.
The Planned Community Free Medical Outreach has been designed to directly impact about 500 persons and would witness the distribution of about 100 free treated eyeglasses, basic healthcare drugs and professional healthcare services of an Optician, General Practitioner and team of Nurses who would be present to conduct medical examinations, health education and administration of drugs, etc.
To promote active community participation in ensuring that the Health Center is sustainably functional, the Planning Committee recognised the challenges being faced presently by other Primary Health Centers in Nigeria, in terms of capacity deficits in providing essential healthcare services, poor staffing, inadequate equipment, poor distribution of health workers and human resources, poor condition of infrastructure, facility management/maintenance culture issues and under utilisation; inadequate financing, as well as lack of essential drugs.
Accordingly, the Planning Committee developed the Amangwu Healthcare Services Community Support Framework to provide a Community Support Governance System that would collaborate with the government to ensure the sustainable effectiveness of the Health Center.
The framework provides for the establishment of-
a) Amangwu Community Healthcare Management Committee with the mandate to collaboratively ensure oversight for access and quality healthcare services, support for facility management and infrastructure and medical equipment for the Health Center, support for Health Workers welfare, report to the Health authorities needs assessment outcomes as well as collaborate with governments and stakeholders in organising free Medical Outreaches and health education programs within the community;
b) Establishment of the Amangwu Healthcare Services Trust Fund (The Ngwu Health Trust), a dedicated fund account for collaborative community health support where Ndi Amangwu and the entire Aros and friends of Ndi Amangwu both home and abroad would have the opportunity to financially support the operational activities of the Health Center for Sustainability and semi-annually strive to organise Free Medical Outreaches, provide health support for vulnerable households, pregnant women, nursing mothers and women to help reduce cases of infant mortality, maternal mortality and other health challenges within the contiguous communities.
On behalf of the Eze Ogo, the ADU leadership, the patriotic Planning Committee Members and the entire Ndi Amangwu, we invite the general public to come and be a part of Amangwu Rising history and support Amangwu Community Health Center to function to optimal levels to the praise and Glory of God.
Amb Sunday Chibuzo Okereke ,
Chairman, Planning Committee
